course:  Form finding methods
role: lecturer
location: Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (remote)
date: from 6 Sep to 25 Oct 2024

main objectives of the course

  1. To teach the creation of optimized architectural forms using form-finding techniques with Grasshopper and plugins like Kangaroo.
  2. To develop projects that integrated physical simulation and structural optimization.
  3. To explore concepts of form finding and geometric optimization in parametric design.

The teaching approach integrated theory and practice, covering fundamental concepts of the topic. The course combined theoretical study with hands-on application, utilizing Grasshopper and the Kangaroo plugin for modelling and simulation.

Students could work on specific practical exercises and develop applied projects. Knowledge was built progressively and sequentially, reinforcing previously acquired concepts while introducing new optimization and structural simulation techniques within the context of parametric architecture.
